Treemendous’ new tree planting project by Gloucestershire’s Greenest Retailer reaps rewards for countryside

50,000 members and counting for facebook forest

A new tree planting initiative by green retailer Ecotopia.co.uk is proving a huge success with thousands of people joining up to help plant woodlands in the . As part of its environmental commitment, Ecotopia.co.uk are planting a tree for every 50 members of it’s Facebook Forest group and a further tree for every 50 customers.

The first Facebook Forest is being planted on a small plot of land just outside Minchinhampton on the Edge of what is to be the first carbon neutral market garden.  Lucy Offord who is creating the market garden welcomes the Facebook Forest and states how this exciting project compliments the development she is carrying out with the market garden.  The first site will have room for hundreds of trees.  These will vary from year old to more mature saplings to help establish these new woodlands/ forests. Ecotopia will be looking to establish further Forests alongside other such environmental projects.

Steve Jones adds: "We are delighted to establish our first forest. By planting indigenous species, forests can support themselves and after a short period of time will begin to support an entire ecosystem which will benefit the local countryside on a valuable scale. We would be delighted to hear from any organisations and groups who would be interested in benefiting from having their own small facebook forest."
